Leaving Home

The long anticipated day for our cruise to New England and Canada has arrived. The New York weather forecast for today was awful. Expecting high winds and torrential rains from the remnants of Tropical Storm Nicole. It rained heavy overnight but the ride to the Bayonne and the ship was pleasant and uneventful. Frank picked us up at 8:30. By the time we left Dick and Ann’s, the rain had stopped so we drove to Bayonne without nasty weather and with surprising little traffic. We got there in about an hour. The pier is almost desolate and reminds me of abandoned warehouses.

After checking in at the pier, we waited in a lounge area quite a distance from the ship and waited for the shuttle bus to take us to the ship.

This ship is huge. The Windjammer Cafe where we ate lunch was big and the food was excellent. All buffet style. Judging from the people on board, it looks like a senior's cruise. Very few people we have seen are under 50 years old.

The weather was still raw as you can see in these pictures from the ship.

You can barely make out the Statute of Liberty.

We are now out to sea and ready to begin the rest of the cruise.
