Bar Harbor, ME - Tendering

Ruth and Frank booked an excursion trip to Acadia National Park. Dick and Ann decided to stay on board since this was their third visit to Bar Harbor. So, Sue and I were on our own.

Because Bar Harbor has no pier to accommodate cruise ships, we anchored in the middle of the bay and needed to take smaller boats to go back and forth to port. That is called tendering. The tender boats were leaving from Deck 1 unlike when we left from Deck 2 in Portland. I didn’t know that at first. So, Sue and I went down to Deck 2 like we did the day before and found nothing. No “Gangway this way” signs. Nothing. So, I called the operator and asked where we needed to get the ship. They say, ”Deck 1”.

We go down to Deck 1 and nothing. In Fact, we’re boxed in. You can’t travel anywhere laterally from where we were. We had to back up to Deck 4, walk on the outside deck to the stern, and then down to Deck 1.  Very confusing but probably my fault.

I’m not too fond of tendering.
